The national institute of open schooling , which
is now called national open school is board of education under the
indian government . The system was set up by the government of india
in the year 1989 to increase literacy in the country by providing
education to remote area students and increase flexibility in
learning . The institute also offers vocation courses after the high
school . Though , the aim of the open school was to set up distance
learning system , the institute provides education at the secondary
and senior secondary level , which is equivalent to CBSE
The exams are held twice a year in the first half
of year and in second part of the year . However , the candidates can
also take part in the on the demand examinations in those subjects .
